Kindness: the key to greatness.

Last month I had a rather wonderful vindication of the power of random kindness. An Austrian colleague of mine was using our bus system only to find that when she got on, she only had €10 instead of the required change. A young man (unprompted) paid her fare of €1.40. She was amazed by this. I found myself thinking of another experience of kindness from many years ago. When I was in my 20's I travelled on Eurorail, got to Paris and got completely lost. I needed to get to the Gard du Nord but had no idea. A very kind French woman took me almost to the station (well out of her way). She had no English, I had no French but I will remember her kindness always. She may not...but I will.

All too often it's the small things that trip and infuriate us...the driver cutting in front of us, the unhelpful shop assistant, the perceived snub and insult that really gets us. We are magnificent in a crisis but are small and petty in day to day stuff. Imagine how much happier and families would be if we made a conscious decision to choose the kinder option:

Take Action!

This week, choose to do one kind thing every day...notice how this makes YOU feel good! One approach is not to decide what that thing is going to be but to stay alert for opportunities to be kind..and don't forget

Life Blueprint: Now What?

Mark's story (Mark has completed the Now What? programme)

"After a number of false starts (lecturing, web design), there was a very clear theme emerging i.e. writing & performing music. This was something I have enjoyed as a hobby for the past 20 years. As we worked through the course, it became evident that there was a real possibility of developing this hobby into a career. Although I had always considered that a career in music involved playing in a working band, we discovered that writing/recording & trying to sell the rights to songs instead ticked many of the boxes for me – i.e. fulfils the creative need while not requiring me to spend time away from my family. The added advantage is that I can purse this option while still retaining my current job."

I now have some very practical, achievable objectives that will clearly set me on my new path. Provided I keep up the momentum, anything is possible

Recommended - what I'm reading/listening to

Marriage Stuff

I came across a rather interesting book called "Love yourself and it doesn't matter who you marry" by Eva-Maria Zurhorst. The theory is that the person we are married to is the person we need in our lives to help us heal and grow. One criticism I would have of the book is that it's long on stories/narratives but doesn't give any practical step by step ways to do this...

Recipes for a perfect marriage by Kate Kerrigan

I've mentioned this book before but I'm going to suggest that if you are married read it and if you know someone who is going to get married, suggest to them that they read it too... it's a very honest account of the reality of marital love...

And now, for something completely different

Casino Royale

I recently watched this on DVD and enjoyed it. Daniel Craig is the best Bond I've ever seen. I'm not a big fan of the Bond franchise but he has an edgy darkness to him that is a huge contrast to Pierce Brosnan and he's also quite easy on the eye... .(not that I noticed or anything...)
