You can't get what you want - until you know what you want. But do I want what I think I want and will I want it when I get it?

The common belief in coaching is that once you get clear on what you want the rest is easy...and to be honest I think there is a lot of truth to that. However, one of the things I am struggling with at the moment is getting clear around what I want, how to get it and is this the "best" thing for me? And what is the "best" thing anyway? I'm sure you have had times when you did what seemed the right thing and it worked out wrong and times when you did something you weren't sure about and it worked out perfectly..even though it didn't seem like that at the time. And have you ever got what you thought you really wanted only to find that it wasn't quite what you thought it was? Confused? me too!

We're also brainwashed to believe that what we really want is to be thin, rich, beautiful, earn loads of money, wear beautiful clothes, live in fabulous houses and work in jobs that can do all this for us. But while I personally think all those things are good...it doesn't mean that they are what I *want*. It doesn't mean that these things will feed the soul..the soul often requires smaller, more specific gifts.

There is a quieter, gently persistent voice that is a truer barometer of what I want at the deepest level of my soul. And so often we deny it. And yet when we do listen to it, the joy can be quite disproportionate to the item! Let me give you two examples..I had a client. Let's call him Bob. He had always really really wanted to have a particular type of car but had always said it was the wrong time, didn't have the money etc. I suggested that perhaps at this time of his life, he just checked if he could afford it and yes he could. He daringly went and got the car and said that the amount of joy and enjoyment he has received from the car far outweighs what he paid for it! Let me give you another example from my own life. I regularly travel to Galway through Oughterard and in Oughterard (a gorgeous little town by the way!) there is a magnolia tree that only blossoms for a couple of weeks during the year. But everytime I see that tree, it's just a rush..it's magnificent. I've often thought...that I would love to have a magnolia tree myself but like my client put it off. This year, instead of going out for dinner for Mother's Day,  I asked my husband to purchase me a magnolia tree and I am now awaiting delivery. And I know I am really looking forward to it. Sometimes I don't know what I want for my life..but I know I want that magnolia tree and maybe that's the challenge to look for the shy, quiet signs that tell us what we actually deeply truly want as opposed to the noisy clamouring voice that booms this is what you want..This gentle voice will lead us more truly to what we really want than any amount of noise..

So often we deny ourselves the small pleasures that would feed our soul and instead opt for the more expensive ones that we think we *should* want...Our deepest self is gentle, persistent and an idea keeps repeating. Our noisy bombastic self has an urgent, hysterical quality that shrieks if we don't get what we want NOW...it'Ll be ALL GONE!!!!

Take Action!

Now What coaching?

I'm planning to take on TWO new clients only next month for this process. If you feel as though you want a change but want a clear process that focusses on the WHO more so than the WHAT...this is the process for you...You can read about it here. You can also read more about the originator of the process at: www.laurabermanfortgang.com and www.nowwhatcoaching.com

Consciousness shifting

Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle are together presenting a webinar on Eckhart Tolle's new(ish) book A New Earth. This is free and you can still sign up by going to www.oprah.com . It's began this week.  There are reading groups set up to work along with it. Why am I mentioning this? Well, first of all, it's a great chance to see Eckhart Tolle at work and secondly...this is what Karen Vizer has to say about Eckhart Tolle's idea of the "pain body" and consciousness shifting

"consciousness shifting is a process that can quickly identify the patterns of the “pain-body” and disable them so the pain body is no longer driving your experience of life. Click on the link to read the rest of the posting..
I'm offering complimentary sessions to all readers of this newsletter and you can read some more of the testimonials here.  Note that there are two other coaches now available at this link: Eileen and Ewa so if you can't get an appointment with me at the time you want, book in with one of these two ladies. We've been trained around the same time..Ewa is from Poland so if you know any Polish speakers that you think might be interested in the work...please forward this to them.

"The 2 sessions I had with you cleared the longterm deep seated issues I had internally. Unseen forces at work went on and clarity prevailed! Thank you. Lindy Shearer"

It's very difficult to explain, as I proved when I tried to describe it to someone recently, BUT conscious shifting works. I was feeling really stuck about a situation and afterwards I felt much greater peace and clarity around it. P Connors

If you have availed of your complimentary session and wish to book another one..you can do so here..remember there is a discount for readers of this newsletter!

Congratulations to the two winners of our survey prize: Jean Maund and Sally Keeler. They've both won two sessions each of consciousness shifting..

Recommended - what I'm reading/watching

Sidetracked by Henning Mankell: If you like a cracking story, strong characters and great writing, check out the work of Henning Mankell ( a Swedish crime writer). This is a great story that begins with a young woman committing suicide by setting herself on fire..er, I don't mean that it's great she committed suicide..but it *is* a great story..

You can heal your life - the movie. This is a movie about the work of Louise Hay and let me tell you, you haven't seen as many fresh, vibrant looking 80 year olds. This is a woman who has declared that this decade of her 80's will be her best yet...If you can get the bonus edition which has interviews with people like Wayne Dyer, Cheryl Richardson, Doreen Virtue etc...well worth checking out..and a lot better for you than Rambo! You can watch an online trailer first or I think you can also watch it online. This movie is an interesting example of a whole new genre of cinema...pioneered by the Spiritual Cinema Circle which celebrates and revels in the positive aspects of the human experience...not just CGI, violence and thrillers.
