Musings - Do you want to be secure or safe? Life as a daring adventure!
In the course of my work with various individuals, a theme that often emerges is that of "security". People don't want to leave a bad job, a painful relationship, take a chance on starting a business because they would lose "security". Security is a myth. We are only sure of death and taxes (and if you have a good accountant, maybe not even much of the latter!). If you look around you, you can see countless examples of people whose lives were changed dramatically, who lost their "security" in an instant. And you know what, life went on. People discovered their strengths, their resources, who their friends really are and many people will tell you that the nasty shock they got was the best thing that happened to them.
In the film "What's love got to do with it?" there is a powerful courtroom scene towards the end that shows Tina Turner relinquishing all her rights ..except for the name Turner. That was inspirational for me. That is true security. She was truly safe, maybe not secure but definitely safe. She had enough faith in her own talent and path to be willing to walk away a free woman and start again. She refused to get stuck in the "poor me" mode. She started singing the sort of songs that gave her joy and has achieved amazing success in doing so. The "secure" thing for her to have done would be (a) stayed with Ike or (b) chased after him for his money or (c) keep playing the same music she did with Ike. The world would be a poorer place as a result. Instead she chose true safety...to navigate by her own star. Nelson Mandela has that quality in buckets as well...he may have been in prison but he was a free man. However he held to his convictions, stayed true to his own inner compass and has been an inspiration to millions as a result. Now you may not be called to be a Nelson Mandela but you certainly have been called to be a perfect example of YOU. What is the world missing because you don't believe and trust the deepest yearnings of your soul and heart? How do you begin to allow yourself to grow beyond the limits you have set yourself? The first and most important step is to admit the truth of your situation. Admit what you really want to do. Admit it to yourself if no one else. Being positive begins with truth. Secondly ask how you have contributed to it and then how you can change it. No one else is going to change...it's up to you. This can be a sobering experience. It's so easy to blame everyone else for how you feel/what you have done. See if you can find someone who has overcome the difficulties you face and see how you can draw inspiration from them. But remember to be guided even more by the promptings of your own heart... Take time over the next few weeks to learn more about yourself...
Take Action!
- Get up early one morning (or stay up late one night) and write down what you hate about your current situation. Don't hold back. Get it all down on paper. Be mean, be petty. Write out all your anger, frustration, bewilderment, disappointment. Read it back. Now burn it. The next day write out your problems
- again but this time divide your page in two. Write problem on one side and solution on the other. Now for every problem you have, identify a solution. It could be a useful exercise to do this with a friend with whom you could brainstorm around solutions.
- Hire a coach, get a buddy..someone who will support you, give you help and reassure you when things do not go to plan.
LantzQuest
Ever gone on a training course, thought it was brilliant but once back in the office, promptly forgotten it all. Imagine what it would be like to attend a course, learn new and interesting skills and then have a coach to help and support you as you began implementing them. Imagine how powerful that would be....i
This is what attracted me to LantzQuest (for whom I am now opening a branch office in Ireland). This company combines coaching with training in a way which dramatically increases learning retention. I have now completed my training with LantzQuest and so have started looking for potential customers. The ideal company is small to medium size and probably outsources a lot of its training/development.
If you have the following problems in your organisation...the chances are, LantzQuest can help you.
- High staff turnover (the combination of training and coaching means that staff feel valued and appreciated...and more likely to stay!)
- Poor relationships between managers and staff. (Our Coaching Clinic can help you there)
- Need to fast track the training of a group of new employees...our Academy can design a programme to help you do that...
If you feel this is something that you/your staff could benefit from, please contact me at 087-2825578 or at anne.walsh@lantzquest.com. I'm happy to have a no obligation conversation with you about what LantzQuest could do for you and if you decide its not for you. ..
